Do official Travel Advisories impact my travel insurance coverage?

Yes, they might. Our policy has certain conditions & exclusions that can sometimes limit coverage (as all insurance policies do).

Before you fly, check the Canadian Travel Advisory website, where you will be informed about the safety of specific destinations. If the country you are planning to travel to states 'Avoid all travel' or 'Avoid non-essential travel', then you will not be covered for any accident, injury or sickness that might be caused by or related to the advisory/ warning.

For example, say you're advised to not travel to a country due to an increase in violent crime but you go anyway. If you are attacked and end up in hospital, your claim will likely be denied. However, you may still be covered for expenses that aren't related to the advisory (say, if you get food poisoning completely unrelated to the crime advisory).
